CAKE MEMORIES... I have very vivid memories of my mother baking, decorating and delivering all kinds of cakes, all throughout my childhood. In
fact, when I was only about 5 years old, she made an amazing wedding cake that I decided I wanted for MY wedding when
I grew up. And, that's the cake I had at my wedding in 1996. And, though I wasn't in the kitchen
very much when I was growing up (my brother was the one that baked the cakes for Mom!), I always loved
to see the final product. Her cakes were always so awesome to me - to think that she was able to create such
a beautiful piece of art was far beyond my comprehension!
However, when I was expecting my first child,
something changed and I wanted to learn the basics of cake decorating. Mom gave me her icing and cake recipes and showed
me the basics in my apartment kitchen. Once my second child was born, I started to tinker a little more. Even
still, I would only make simple, little cakes, while Mom would make most of the birthday cakes for the kids...Then in 2004,
I decided to branch out a little more, practice a few more techniques, began to get a little more confident with my skills
and it has been an ongoing process ever since! (And, now Mom and I bake and decorate together! So fun!!)
THE HERE AND NOW... I have finally decided to walk in obedience and to
take my cake decorating to another level, simply to be a blessing to others!!! And, since I am essentially just
starting out, I am still baking cakes right out of my kitchen (which makes my home smell really good!) Making cakes
right out of my kitchen also gives me the flexibility to be home with the kids while fulfilling my passion and what I believe
has become a calling on my life.
Over the years, I have finally come to realize 2 things: How passionate
I am about cake decorating and that just one amazing cake can transform, not only a party, but the
person being celebrated - creating memories that will last for a lifetime!
